This weekend we opened a bottle of 2021 Realm Cellars The Bard, a red Bordeaux blend from Napa. Realm Cellars is often cited as one of the most experimental wineries in Napa. Their wine is fully allocated BUT, it hasn't been widely discovered yet so I was able to get a small allocation at sign up and I think that's still possible.
The Bard was the first of their wines we've tried. They call it their 'flagship' wine but it's definitely not their most expensive but is their premier blend made from grapes from all across Napa. It is made from 83% Cab Sauv, 7% Merlot, and 6% Cab Franc with a little Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah.
The nose and palate were similar with concentrated, fruit forward black fruit and cassis, pencil lead, light spices and a touch of sweet wood. Very texturally rich and opulent. Tannins are fine and lovely but a little young and grippy. Best on day 3 of 3. A beautiful Napa Cab made in the fruit forward rich style but not over ripe or jammy. 94+ pts but could be a stunner in a few years.
